Why I Started Intentional Focus: Meet Tom

From a young age, I was drawn to building things whether it was landscapes, homes, or businesses. At 14, I launched my first company, and by 19, I was flipping houses and chasing down problems to solve. That passion led me to study construction management, where my professors didn’t just teach, they challenged me to think critically and differently. That was my first transformation spark: True learning isn’t memorization but a shift in perspective to see things differently.

I began my career in the fire. I joined a general contractor that shrank from 18 employees to just 3 in a few short years, and I had to learn everything; contracts, accounting, estimating, operations. My boss gave me a choice: coast and get five years of experience in five years, or go for ten years of experience in the same time by working for me. I chose ten. That was my second transformation spark: When we embrace the challenge head on, we accelerate our growth.

After launching and selling a few small businesses, I took on a leadership role at Gold Star to remodel every franchise location. But that job wasn’t just about construction at all, it was about trust, branding, and building operational systems that actually worked. It was here that I committed to deep personal growth, fueled by books, podcasts, and mentors. That became my third transformation spark: Leadership isn’t about having all the answers, it’s about being committed to continuous growth.

Next, I led operations for two major Christian attractions at Answers in Genesis. I managed 650 team members during peak seasons and oversaw park operations serving more than 1.5 million annual visitors. I learned how to build high-impact leaders, scale systems, and communicate with clarity amidst complexity. My fourth transformation spark came in those relentless days of problem solving: Urgency will always fight for your attention, but it's the important that deserves your focus.

Today, at Intentional Focus, I help high-performing leaders cut through distractions and regain clarity. Too often, businesses get stuck in friction though misaligned priorities, decision fatigue and scattered processes. I don’t show up with a slide deck. I show up to dig in, get clear, and help leaders build the tools, systems, and habits to unlock momentum and lead better... INTENTIONALLY.
